Why this doesn't need a server
Downloading from a platform needs a server to fetch the video on your behalf. Converting a file you already have doesn't — your browser can decode and re-encode it directly, so the video never has to leave your device. The trade-off is that very large files take longer and use more of your device's memory than they would on a server.
